Fucose is an essential sugar, a monosaccharide, which the body needs to enable cell-to-cell communication. Scientists studying Glycobiology and nutrition just over ten years ago revealed eight of these essential sugars. Fucose and the other seven essential sugars are classified as glyconutrients.
Fucose is on the surface of plants including:
- Wakame - This is brown seaweed, which has and pinnately divided blades. It inhabits the coasts of Japan, China and Korea. It is used widely in Asian cooking. Other health giving ingredients are fucoxathin, which can assist the body to burn fatty tissue. Wakame is also used in contemporary beauty treatments. It is often used in soup and salads.
Medicinal mushrooms including Maitake, Agaricus blazei, Hericium erinaceus Cordyceps sinensis, Coriolus versicolor, Reishi, and Shiitake.
Do not confuse Fructose and Fucose. Fructose is a monosaccharide found in honey and fruits.
In the latter stages of pregnancy, there is a large rise in flow of Fucose in the urine. This is because Fucose aids fetal development and the shift of immunity to the baby. Breast milk also contains Fucose to prolong protection and immunization once the baby is born.
Studies with humans have not found any side effects even when taken in particularly high doses. It appears that a hundred and fifty pound adult can take an oral dose of thirty-four grams. The glyconutrient Fucose eliminates from the bloodstream eight to twelve hours after taken because of this it is wise to take twice daily doses, Fucose is readily absorbed from the small intestine and incorporated either directly or after metabolism into glycoproteins. Friendly intestinal bacteria metabolize any unabsorbed Fucose.
Investigations have shown that glycoproteins and glycolipids – the Fucose glycoconjugates are an important in strengthening the body’s immune system.
Studies have also found the Fucose is greatly important for effective neuron transmission in the brain. It possibly will help improve the brain’s skill in creating long-term memories, due to its effect on brain development. Fucose is also a powerful immune modulator.
Concentrations of the glyconutrient Fucose are in the outer layer of the skin, the testes, and the proximal tubules of the kidney and at the links between nerves. It is important for proper nerve function, kidney health, reproduction systems and hydration of your skin. |
